Pakistanis from all walks of life are eagerly awaiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s two-day official visit to Islamabad starting Thursday. Prime Minister Imran Khan together with his Cabinet members welcomed the Turkish president, accompanied by a high-level delegation, at Nur Khan Airbase, a military base used to receive foreign government officials. Qureshi said Erdogan’s visit will boost ties between the two countries as around businessmen are accompanying the Turkish president to explore business possibilities.
Turkish president to address joint sitting of parliament on Feb 14
According to the Foreign Office (FO), the Turkish president is visiting Pakistan for underscoring “traditional solidarity and affinity” between the two countries and further “deepening and broadening of the flourishing Pakistan-Turkey strategic partnership”. Adviser to Prime Minister Imran Khan for Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood had announced the visit of the Turkish president on February 4. The advisor further said that Erdogan will be accompanied by a delegation of Turkish businessmen. The capital Islamabad’s main Kashmir Highway and other roads have been decorated with Turkish and Pakistani flags as well as life-size portraits of Erdogan, President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan.

During the visit, Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Erdogan will have an one-on-one meeting, after which they will co-chair the 6th Session of the Pakistan-Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in the joint cabinet format.
President Erdogan and Prime Minister Imran Khan will also address the Pakistan-Turkey Business and Investment Forum which brings together leading investors and business-people from both sides. The Foreign Office said the Turkish president would visit Pakistan from Feb 13 to 14 for underscoring “traditional solidarity and affinity” between the two countries and further “deepening and broadening of the flourishing Pakistan-Turkey strategic partnership”. Erdogan is aligning Turkey as a reliable ally for Pakistan, further distancing Islamabad from Riyadh.
